Giant Steps Jazz Course: Frequently Asked questions

How many people will be attending?

You will be in a group of no more than 20 players, plus your tutor(s).

Do I have to arrange and pay for accommodation?

This is an inclusive package – your accommodation is included in the price. (Yes, it is amazingly good value!)

Am I good enough player? Am I too good?

The course is for beginner to intermediate players who want to improve their ability to play a certain type of music. No tuition is offered on how to play your instrument. That part of your musical education is best served by regular lessons on a one-to-one basis, or through the various books and DVDs available.

Players who are accustomed to the terminology will find some aspects easier; those who can play ‘by ear’ will find other parts easier. As the courses range widely, there will always be some aspects which are more challenging to you than others.

“The likelihood is that there will be players who are better than you and players not as good as you. You will learn from both of them.” A Cook, tutor

What should I bring?

Bring an overnight bag, a music stand and notebook or manuscript paper, your instrument, an amplifier if appropriate and your enthusiasm to become a better player, together with an appetite to learn. (And one for eating too!)
